Free Excel Tutorial for Engineers : Graphs & Charts

When you have lengthy worksheets, it is always better to summarize the data and graphically represent it. This can be achieved by using the Charts options provided in excel. Excel has more than 10 types of chart styles. You can insert a chart following some simple steps.

  1. Select a cell from the list that you want to summarize, go to the insert ribbon and select the type of chart that you want to show.

  1. From the drop down menu under the chart type select the subtype of the chart that you want to insert.

  1. To change the layout of the chart you can go to the chart layout options in the design ribbon. Excel provides you with a selected set of layouts for each chart type.


  1. You can also change the chart style by selecting any of the styles provided in the chart style options provided under the design ribbon.
